J.J. Abrams is still a powerhouse when it comes to television. He currently has REVOLUTION, PERSON OF INTEREST, and ALMOST HUMAN airing on three different networks and now his collaboration with Alfonso Cuaron, BELIEVE, will be premiering on NBC. We heard about BELIEVE last year when it was announced as a midseason replacement show. Throughout the Olympics, NBC aired tons of commercials to hype the supernatural show which looks like it will follow the standard Abrams/Bad Robot formula of a mysterious conspiracy with connections to all levels of government.

The selling point with BELIEVE though has to be the involvement of Alfonso Cuaron. The recent Oscar winner for directing GRAVITY both helmed and co-wrote the pilot for BELIEVE. As a huge Cuaron fan, the combination of J.J. Abrams eye for intriguing stories and the CHILDREN OF MEN director is too good to pass up.

BELIEVE is about an unlikely relationship between a gifted young girl and a man sprung from prison who has been tasked with protecting her from the evil elements that hunt her power.

Hulu has premiered the first two minutes of the pilot episode of BELIEVE, which you can watch below. For some reason, Hulu has been spotty for connectivity recently, so if it doesn’t work, give it a few minutes. What I can say having watched the 120 seconds of footage is that Cuaron’s visual style does translate to the small screen, even if it is a bit standardized for the small screen. Even with that in mind, I will not spoil this clip as it is a doozy of a way to open a series. It does seem that the mystery at the core of BELIEVE will be intriguing for the short term so it will fall to the rookie star duo of Johnny Sequoyah and Jake McLaughlin to carry the series with MacLachlan, Delroy Lindo, and Jamie Chung helping in supporting roles.

BELIEVE premieres on NBC on March 10th.
