We’ve thrown around a dozen names for the role of Luke Cage. If Idris Elba was a contender, would you be down for that? Seems the actor at one point had conversations with Marvel about potentially taking on the role.
In an interview with Huffington Post, Elba spoke a little about his prior involvement and his awesome Halloween costume:
Idris Elba: No, there isn’t one. For Halloween, I wore Superman. And I was like, “I don’t mind this cape being behind me” [laughs].
HuffPo: You could bring the cape back in style. Everyone will start wearing capes if you wore a cape.
IE: [Laughing] Yeah, man, I wouldn’t mind giving that a go. But, no, other than that, I don’t really have any superhero that I like. There was talk about Luke Cage at one time — I thought Luke Cage was a pretty interesting character. They were going to do it, but I don’t know what happened…
HuffPo: They are developing him into a television show.
IE: That’s right, yeah.
I’ve seen more people recommend Elba for Black Panther than Luke Cage. Even though Netflix is planning the Luke Cage series, I don’t think that they are going to get Elba for that. Is it still feasible to get The Rock? It will be interesting to see who they cast. It might be hard to get a bigger name for a series but if they can manage it, I’d be all for it.
