While we have to deal with the grainy footage on bootleg copies of the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Comic Con teaser, many of us are still awaiting a look at official footage of the CGI characters in Marvel’s film. I am excited to see Groot come to life, but I really want to know what we can expect from Rocket Raccoon. Yes, Bradley Cooper is voicing the smart-ass animal, but how is he going to be portrayed on screen?

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY lead Chris Pratt has shared some comments about the furry little guy and how James Gunn is bringing him to life:

“[Rocket Raccoon has been] tortured his whole life and no one else likes him, so he’s lonely and he’s angry and it’s like, [there are] all these elements [to the character],” he continued. “You sort of forget about that, you wouldn’t think about, [and] hopefully will come to life. I think it will and that’s why they hired a really good actor to do the role. I could not be more excited that Bradley Cooper is voicing Rocket Raccoon, it’s a great character. It’s probably the best character in the movie, just because it’s not what you would expect,”

Michael Rooker, who plays Yondu in the film, gave some info on how his character interacts with Rocket:

“Rocket and I don’t get along, he’s a bit abrupt and brash for my taste. I probably have a little Merle in me still, because I would roast him over an open flame and eat him for supper!”

I like what has come out so far for this project and just how completely different it is from every other Marvel film to date. I hope that all of what we are hearing is more than talk and that it lives up to being a movie about a bunch of a-holes.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, and Glenn Close, opens on August 1, 2014.
