Ladies and gentleman, your Peter Quill has been chosen. Chris Pratt, best known as Andy on PARKS & RECREATION as well as turns in ZERO DARK THIRTY, MONEYBALL, and MOVIE 43, will play Starlord in Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

Deadline reports that Pratt landed the lead after a drawn out search that included John Krasinski, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lee Pace, Eddie Redmayne, and pretty much every other actor in Hollywood.

Last time we need to give you this background synopsis: Better known as Star-Lord, Quill is the son of a human mother and alien father. A charming troublemaker who serves as an interplanetary policeman, Quill leads a rag-tag group of superheroes (Drax the Destroyer, a raccoon named Rocket and a sword-wielding woman named Gamora) in an effort to protect the solar system from an evil alien race.

Pratt has excellent comic timing and certainly is capable of bulking up as he did for ZERO DARK THIRTY. He can definitely hold his own with the quick timing that will be needed for a superhero movie, but it remains to be seen if he will have the starpower to make GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY a success.

Now that the lead has been selected, I have a feeling the supporting roles will fall into place rather quickly. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is slated to open on August 1, 2014.
