THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 has recently made known the fact that Jamie Foxx will portray the villain Electro, but it also appears that they have cast another well-known villain from the annals of Marvel comics.

Actor Asim Ahmad confirmed via his official website that he has been cast in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 as Professor Michael Morbius. While the actor did take to Twitter to clarify his role is confined to two pages of the screenplay, it could be a potential setup for the already in development third film.

Morbius, in Marvel comics, develops vampiric characteristics while trying to cure his own terminal blood disease which led him to become a villain and sometimes ally to Spider-man. Morbius also had run ins with Blade, so that could always be a potential crossover if Sony wanted to build up their superhero squad a little more. The character, despite being a vampire, does have a more “realistic” backstory that would fit in better than The Lizard did.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 will feature the return of Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, and Martin Sheen while adding Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, and Shailene Woodley to the cast. It is slated to open on May 2nd, 2014.
