Nicolas Cage is currently starring in Spider-Noir on Prime Video, officially joining the ranks of actors who have brought a live-action web-slinger to the screen, but who does he count as his favourite Spider-Man?
Nicolas Cage on Spider-Man
While chatting with Complex, Cage revealed his favourite live-action Spider-Man, and I can’t say it’s who I expected.
“I thought Andrew Garfield was a really great Spider-Man,” Cage said. “I thought he did a terrific job. He’s a marvelous actor. For all the younger Peter Parker Spider-Men, he was the one that I thought was really quite something to watch. I would put Garfield as, in my view, the best Spider-Man in cinema.“
So many people go with Tobey Maguire, but Garfield really was a great Spider-Man; his movies just weren’t quite up to par. One of the best costumes though. He played the character in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and returned for Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Maguire and Tom Holland.
What We Thought of Spider-Noir
All eight episodes of Spider-Noir are now streaming on Prime Video (in both Authentic Black & White and True-Hue Full Colour), and our own Alex Maidy was a big fan.
“Spider-Noir is a fantastic gateway for audiences unfamiliar with film noir, allowing them to explore the classic genre. The series also serves as the single best project from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe that does not feature Tom Holland,” he wrote. “Nicolas Cage has rarely been better as this character, allowing him to channel his well-known love of cinema and comic books, as well as his quirky approach to inhabiting his roles. Spider-Noir is a spectacular love letter to a bygone era and the best superhero series in a very long time. Watch it in either presentation, and you will find a lot to appreciate from the music and mood to the costumes and special effects. Who would have thought this would end up being one of the best Spider-Man projects ever? I hope we get more seasons that continue to expand on this specific slice of the multiverse.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.
