Updated: we have been informed that the listing of an Extended Edition for THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY on the calendar shown below was “an erroneous mention of an Extended Edition release for The Hobbit film. This product has not been confirmed yet and we apologize for any confusion.”

It was a given from the start that THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY would receive an Extended Edition on Blu-ray/DVD – this is, after all, Peter Jackson we’re talking about here.  What was unknown about said Extended Edition were the details regarding just when we would see it, especially considering the fact that the window between theatrical run and release on Blu-ray/DVD/download/etc… is shrinking more and more.

But now the general date has been revealed, demonstrating (in case there was any doubt) how Warner Bros. is going to milk its Middle Earth fans for every double-dipping cent they have.  Not that there was any doubt about that either…

A calendar showing the distribution of Warner Brothers titles throughout 2013 has popped up, and in it can be seen a wide variety of special editions and different collections that will be released throughout that twelve month period.  Amongst those, THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY Extended Edition is shown to be dropping in Quarter 4 of 2013, which in all probability puts it as releasing just before THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG.  Meanwhile THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY ULTIMATE COLLECTOR’S EDITION will arrive in Quarter 3 of 2013, bringing it into stores a little over a year after the release of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.  Depending on your taste there are plenty more releases from Warner Bros. to look forward to, including a massive Clint Eastwood Collection, a Mad Max Collection, and more.

Check it out below, and strike back below that to let us know what you might want to buy with that hard-earned cash of yours!
