Hollywood, you’re really (wait for it) stretching my patience with this news. A movie based on STRETCH ARMSTRONG, a toy first introduced in 1976 and brought back in the 90s, has been in the works for a while. At one point Taylor Lautner was set to star, but we dodged that bullet when ABDUCTION fumbled on almost every front.
With Lautner’s star just a bit less shining than before I immediately gained hope that STRETCH ARMSTRONG might be gone for good, but sadly all that really happened was that things continued to move ahead without Lautner. And by “move ahead” I mean “have currently almost found a director in Breck Eisner (THE CRAZIES, SAHARA).”
Dean Georgaris (THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, LARA CROFT TOMB RAIDER: THE CRADEL OF LIFE) has been handling scripting duties, and is currently working on a new pass that looks to find a tone that is a bit more serious than that which was originally written by Steve Oedekerk (BRUCE ALMIGHTY).
The release date is still targeted as being April 11th, 2014.
This is one of those moments where I stop thinking about sad things and do happy things instead, like looking at more Radha Mitchell (the lovely lady pictured above on the set of THE CRAZIES with Breck Eisner directing her).
