Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg were first linked to the comedy TURKEY BOWL last May but no director had been attached. Now word has come down that the movie has been retitled THREE MISSISSIPPI and will be directed by Sean Anders (SEX DRIVE, THAT’S MY BOY). Anders and John Morris will also rewrite the script. The duo is also responsible for writing HOT TUB TIME MACHINE, MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS, and SHE’S OUT OF MY LEAGUE.

The story idea was developed by Adam McKay, who had this to say last year: The idea was originally conceived for Mark Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin. Owen Burke, who’s a producer at Gary Sanchez, and I were talking about how crazily funny Wahlberg and Baldwin were in THE DEPARTED — how, even though it’s not a comedy, we could just watch them all day long. Burke dropped this idea, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s a movie!’ Then Will heard it and he wanted in.

The story centers on two families who partake in an annual Thanksgiving football game.  Baldwin would play Wahlberg’s father.  After suffering a massive heart attack, Baldwin’s character has the final wish that his son finally win the game.  Ferrell would be the primary antagonist from the other family.

No word on whether or not Alec Baldwin is still attached to the film, but it would be great if he was.  This sounds like a nice villainous turn for Ferrell. I am a big fan of THE OTHER GUYS and the two stars have a great amount of chemistry. This could become a new holiday classic.
