Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II
After much delay, Warner Bros. recently released a teaser trailer for The Batman: Part II. It’s a true teaser, since it only shows off Robert Pattinson donning the cape and cowl, yet again, in the middle of a snowy Gotham City. Then, a new logo is shown with the Roman Numeral 2 placed above the bat symbol and a new date for the film has been announced.
The Batman Part II will now be flying to big screens on February 18, 2028. This extra bit of time gives director Matt Reeves more room for post-production, and despite this change, this new release date will still see the movie reach IMAX screens.
Sebastian Stan to play…
Sebastian Stan has been attached to the project, but it has yet to be announced who he will be playing. It was rumored that he’d be the Batman character, Victor Zsasz, but he may have just revealed who it really is. The French publication, Le Journal du Dimanche, recently spoke with Stan on his new film Fjord and asked the inevitable question about Avengers: Doomsday. While saying he can’t say anything about these big comic book projects, it seems that he did let something slip by. Stan answered (translated from French),
Frankly, I know absolutely nothing about it. Because we didn’t have a script. We were just shooting scattered scenes. It’s another way of working—continuously, in a state of constant evolution. The producers didn’t want us to read the script in its entirety, to prevent journalists from asking us questions. (Laughs.) I’ve been following that rule for fifteen years, so I’m used to it. I can’t say anything about Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II either, in which I play Harvey Dent [in theaters February 16, 2028 — Ed.]. Part of the beauty of this profession is getting to take part in projects of this scale that I’m also a huge fan of as a moviegoer. Right now, I’m really looking forward to seeing Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. It looks insane.”
Stan playing Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part II obviously now poses the question of when the inevitability of him becoming Two-Face will take place.
The Details on The Batman: Part II
The Batman Part II will once again find Robert Pattinson suiting up as Batman, with the rest of the cast including Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, Charles Dance, Jayme Lawson, Brian Tyree Henry, Sebastian Koch, and Gil Perez-Abraham.
Farrell has read the script for the sequel and was moved by it. “I read the script, and it’s just brilliant,” he said. “My perspective is that it’s a work of contemporary genre brilliance. It really is. Matt toils so hard, and he puts himself under such pressure. And he realizes what this character and this world mean to so many people, and he knows it’s been around for decades; he’s the man for the job. He really is. He’s a brilliant filmmaker. The thing about Matt, as well, is that, as commercially minded as he is, he’s also so intellectually rigorous.“
He continued, “This film, like the first one, works on multiple levels, both as pure entertainment and as an investigation into the psychology of the characters of Bruce Wayne and Batman. It’s really, really moving. I found myself very emotionally moved while I was reading it.”
