We posted some set images from M. Night Shyamalan’s AFTER EARTH a while ago and now we have a better look at actor Jaden Smith in costume for the sci-fi flick.
Currently filming in Costa Rica, the pic centers on real-life father-and-son Will and Jaden Smith as they crash land on an abandoned Earth a thousand years in the future. Jaden’s character must fight to survive and save both himself and his injured father.
This is the first image that got my attention as it gives us a look at the direction of the costume design for the film. We’ve already established a tropical locale and it seems we can bet on some type of antagonist that puts these characters in danger. Let’s hope it’s not Adrian Brody in a wolf costume.
Or, you know, angry nature.
M. Night is hot or cold, it seems. I loved THE SIXTH SENSE, SIGNS, and UNBREAKABLE. I even kinda liked THE VILLAGE. But, man, his last few have been pretty unbearable. I guess we’re all waiting to see if he can bring back the magic. With screenwriters Stephen Gaghan (TRAFFIC) and Gary Whitta (THE BOOK OF ELI) on board as the writers of this opus, M. Night may well have a fightin’ chance this time out.
I believe in M. Night, just as I believe in Harvey Dent. Here’s hoping he doesn’t get in over his head and seek a twist ending more so than a full-on entertaining feature.
AFTER EARTH is currently slated for release on June 7, 2013
