Seth MacFarlane talks bringing Star Trek back to TV

The STAR TREK movie was a rare reboot success, and the sequel is on the horizon and slowly coming together. But what of the format where the series started? Will Star Trek ever return to TV? An unlikely source is talking about that possibility.

“I don’t know who would give me the keys to that car,” he jokes, acknowledging that the films have been so profitable for Paramount that he isn’t so sure they have a lot of interest in getting back into the TV business. “But I’d love to see that franchise revived for television in the way that it was in the 1990s: very thoughtful, smartly written stories that transcend the science fiction audience.”

Yes, that’s Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane saying that he’d love to be the one to get a Star Trek TV series going again. Whether that means writing, directing, producing or uh, starring, I’m not sure, but it’s an interesting thought to say the least. He’s definitely an animation man, but is getting into live action with the upcoming comedy TED. But that’s still a long way from running a sci-fi TV show of a beloved franchise.

Do you think that MacFarlane could craft a good Star Trek show? Do you think that it should come back to TV at all, or should they just keep going with a good thing in theaters?
