Oh, so that’s what Marvel’s Thunder God will be doing in Thor 2

From the sound of it, Heimdall might be almost as busy as the Thunder God himself in THOR 2.

We’ve wondered what could be so epic that it would demand the mighty Asgardian after his assist in defeating whatever threat faces the world in THE AVENGERS. As Marvel movie honcho Kevin Feige tells EW, the THOR sequel will “take Thor literally to other worlds.” It will “primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds.”

As Thor himself sort of explained in Natalie Portman’s notebook, the Nine Realms are interconnected through Yggdrasil, the world tree, and can be accessed by the Bifrost Bridge (under reconstruction), guarded and controlled by Heimdall. The realms we’ve seen are Asgard, Midgard (Earth) and Jotunheim (Home of the Frost Giants), leaving Alfheim (Home of the Light Elves), Svartalfheim (Home of the Dark Elves), Muspelheim (Home of the Demons), Nidavellir (Home of the Dwarves), Vanaheim (Home of the Vanir, sister race of the Asgardians) and Hel (Realm of the Dead) to be revealed on screen. Hope the sequel’s got a colossal budget.

Feige’s comment confirms the return of at least two major characters, and jibes with the previous claim that the sequel is “”expected to feature a large cast of Asgardians and creatures in the Norse mythology-set world.” Let’s hope Sif and the Warriors Three also get something to do. Actor Tom Hiddleston, who plays villian/Thor bro Loki, also recently stated a desire for redemption in the sequel.

The movie is still locking down a director, with MONSTER director Patty Jenkins tossed around just earlier today. The sequel has already hammered out a release of July 26, 2013.
