Will some movie studios pass on Comic-Con this year?

JoBloJoBlo

Do you expect to see anything from THE DARK KNIGHT RISES or SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL at Comic-Con this year? Well, don’t count on it.

For several Cons, studios have used the convention as a huge marketing platform for upcoming blockbusters. Warner Bros. did it for SHERLOCK HOLMES, 300, and SUCKER PUNCH. Disney did it with TRON: LEGACY and Dreamworks did it with MEGAMIND.

So who won’t be coming this year? Warner Bros, Dreamworks, Disney, and The Weinstein Company are out. In an interesting twist, Marvel Entertainment is having serious doubts about attending as well.

The question the studios are asking themselves is: Would it be worth it? Fans who attend the convention can make or break whatever you present to them. Or even if they do seem excited about something it doesn’t guarantee dollars at the box office.

The good news is Universal plans to premiere COWBOYS VS. ALIENS there, Twentieth Century Fox will represent for RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, and Sony definitely has big plans for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. Oh, and of course THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN will have a panel in Hall H.
