Two projects need new directors: UNCHARTED and AKIRA.
David O’Russell has decided to exit the video game adaptation of UNCHARTED. Why? Deadline indicates that the director has been juggling several projects. Sony is now looking for a new writer to do another draft for the project. That’s all the info on that one.
Our second director leaving a project is Albert Hughes. He’s stepped off AKIRA due to creative differences. When are there not creative differences on this film? Don’t worry about Hughes though. He’ll be taking a meeting with Warner Bros. next week so they can get him on another film.
There’s been stories here and there regarding the adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s graphic novel. One rumor that Warner Bros. has diligently been fighting is the one that production has come to a halt. The studio still has this project on fast track and wants everyone to know that they are trying to get this thing off the ground as swiftly as possible.
After the exit of Keanu Reeves, the studio is now going back to their list of possibles for the two main characters. Do you want me to remind you of who they want for each character? Well, I’m going to anyway–for Tetsuo: Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield, and James McAvoy. For the role of Kaneda: Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix. That list can suck it. Let’s just add some more white people and ignore that fact that the two main characters are Japanese.
Andrew Lazar is producing with Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran. (LEO, let it go) They will possibly be making two movies to cover all six volumes.
