Open your mind to Bill Nighy as the new Kuato in the remake of Total Recall

JoBloJoBlo

British actor Bill Nighy is no stranger to genre material — he’s had his face replaced with CG tentacles, transformed into a zombie, and ruled the vampire hierarchy.

Now he’s going to potentially wear more prosthetics when he leads the resistance as Kuato (or “Quatto”, as Heat Vision spells it) in the remake of TOTAL RECALL, which has Colin Farrell taking over for Arnold Schwarzenegger as implant-triggered superspy Douglas Quaid.

But this time around, Quaid won’t be getting his ass to Mars. The new version takes place in futuristic nation-states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Farrell as a factory worker who begins to believe he is a spy — although he doesn’t know for which side.

The movie reunites Nighy with his UNDERWORLD co-star Kate Beckinsale, who will play Quaid’s wife (or at least the agent inserted into the role). Jessica Biel will be playing the action-ready “other woman”, the freedom fighter Melina.

Beckinsale’s director-hubby Len Wiseman (LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD) is remaking Paul Verhoeven’s own violent version of Philip K. Dick’s sci-fi story. “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston plays the villain now, and Ethan Hawke has an undisclosed role.
