Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN project has taken a long time to get going, but now it’s full steam ahead and picking up people like a mid-19th century locomotive.

Daniel Day Lewis is portraying the fashionably hatted President, with Sally Field as his wife. Now the movie will also star Joseph Gordon-Levitt as son Robert Todd Lincoln, and Tommy Lee Jones as politician Thaddeus Stevens.

Now get ready, the list of supporting players is nearly as long as the Gettysburg Address: Tim Blake Nelson, James Spader, John Hawkes, Hal Holbrook, David Costabile, Joseph Cross, Byron Jennings, Dakin Matthews, Bruce McGill, Boris McGiver, Gloria Reuben, Jeremy Strong and David Warshofsky.

The movie is based on the book “Team of Rivals,” by Pulitzer-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, and covers Lincoln’s journey to being on money. LINCOLN will begin shooting in Virginia this fall and is planned for a late 2012 release, possibly after we’ve seen the famous President’s secret vampire-fighting days.
