The title of Quentin Tarantino’s next movie?

DJANGO UNCHAINED.

That’s according to a pic of the purported script posted by twitter user @AgentTrainee, who presumably is an agent trainee (…) with access to such material.

The title has since been verified, and would certainly make sense. We’ve known of Tarantino’s love for spaghetti westerns and his intention to make one (and yes, he does hand-scrawl the title pages for his scripts).

And earlier in the year, actor Franco Nero (star of the original DJANGO) claimed he would be working with the filmmaker on a “tribute to Sergio Leone”. Tarantino’s INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS villain Christoph Waltz will also reportedly have a part, along with Keith Carradine and Treat Williams.

Back in February 2010, Tarantino had this to say: “I’d like to do a Western. But rather than set it in Texas, have it in slavery times. With that subject that everybody is afraid to deal with. Let’s shine that light on ourselves. You could do a ponderous history lesson of slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad. Or, you could make a movie that would be exciting. Do it as an adventure. A spaghetti Western that takes place during that time. And I would call it ‘A Southern.'”

According to AICN‘s ace reporter Mr. Beaks in an update a few months ago, Tarantino plans to shoot the movie in Italy and Spain later this year.

The first DJANGO in 1966 influenced dozens of films and spawned unofficial sequels and spinoffs (including a remake by Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike, which featured QT himself). Euro-horror director Sergio Corbucci switched to noodle-westerns for the vicious flick with recurring outlaw Franco Nero as the enigmatic stranger of the title. What’s different about this guy (besides his catchy theme music) is that he drags around a coffin containing a belt-fed machinegun. While playing rival gangs against each other, Django paints the muddy town a vivid shade of crimson thanks to his ferocious lead-spitting friend he keeps in the casket, racking up a body count to rival the 80s output of Stallone and Schwarzenegger.
