True Blood schedule cost actor Superman role

Henry Cavill might have been a satisfactory pick for most, but as it turns out, our new Superman could have been all-American.

According to actor Joe Manganiello, he was in the final stages of casting when everyone figured out that the film would just not work with his True Blood shooting schedule, as he’d have to miss a big chunk of filming. Manganiello plays a hunky werewolf character who presumably has a larger role in Season 4, and seems pained about the decision he had to make when speaking to MovieWeb about it.

“At the end of the day they wanted me to screen test and they actually asked for my measurements for the suit and everything…Their shoot date switched and it would have taken up 11 weeks out of my True Blood ‘ schedule. At the end of the day, we couldn’t get the schedule to work so that I could go off and screen test. So, regrettably, I never got to screen test, I never got to put the suit on.”

If he never even got to screen test, I’m not sure how much of a sure thing he was, but if the option was another season of the far-less-interesting-than-it-used-to-be True Blood, and the lead in a Chris Nolan/Zack Snyder movie about the most famous superhero in history, I might think about pissing off HBO, though I suppose I don’t know what his contract situation was.

Do you think Manganiello would have made a good Man of Steel?
