I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed GREEN HORNET despite all the negative press it was getting, and I wondered what Michel Gondry would be up to next after stepping outside of his comfort zone for it.
Well we have our answer, and I have to say I’m intrigued. Michel Gondry will adapt and direct the 1969 Philip K. Dick novel Ubik. Dick wrote stories that eventually evolved into BLADE RUNNER, TOTAL RECALL, MINORITY REPORT and A SCANNER DARKLY and many consider Ubik to be his prized novel.
It’s about a psychic security organization hired by a business executive to protect himself from telepathic attack, and the story is full of reality warping twists and turns. If you’re like me, your mind immediately jumped to INCEPTION, but I’m sure the two are more than dissimilar, or we would have heard some sort of controversy about plot stealing.
It does sound up Gondry’s alley, as he’s more than familiar with brain tampering via ETERNAL SUNSHINE. Are you excited to see what he does with Dick’s Ubik?
