I liked cool stuff in middle school. Sadly, I did not really get into anything Alfred Hitchcock until High School.
Movies like DISTURBIA have brought the world of Hitchcock to the younger generation. While a world that sees Shia LaBeouf as James Stewart’s successor scares me, DISTURBIA really didn’t bother me that much.
So maybe the re-imagining of THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH will end up as an average film, or at least it could strive for that. This version will be called, THE KID WHO KNEW TOO MUCH and will flip the original plot of the story. In this one instead of a kid getting kidnapped, the parents will be the ones who get kidnapped. I guess the kid will be the one to investigate the conspiracy now. This feels like an idea for the 90’s.
John and Jez Butterworth will be the ones scripting this fun adventure. Jez was on board at one point to write the remake of THE BIRDS.
Devin over at BadAss Digest (who reported the original story) makes a good point, “And before you get too worked up, remember that The Man Who Knew Too Much was Hitchcock remaking himself! He shot the original in 1934, and preferred the 1956 version.” So now you should feel all warm and cuddly inside.
