Venerable character actor Pete Postlethwaite, who starred in CLASH OF THE TITANS, INCEPTION and THE TOWN this year, has died at the age of 64. Poslethwaite, one of the great “That Guy” actors of our generation, had been receiving treatment for cancer and died in a central England hospital on Sunday.
Postlethwaite might be best known to viewers as Kobayashi in THE USUAL SUSPECTS but was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in 1993’s IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER. Steven Spielberg famously dubbed Postlethwaite the “best actor in the world” after working with him on THE LOST WORLD and AMISTAD. Other popular Postlethwaite films include HAMLET, LAST OF THE MOHICANS, ALIEN 3, ROMEO + JULIET, BRASSED OFF and THE OMEN.
He had a prolific 2010 with a possible two Best Picture-nominated films on his resume and still has the UK comedy KILLING BONO (with Ben Barnes, Krysten Ritter and Peter Serafinowicz) set for release this upcoming April.
