Cool Videos: Rockstar using Avatar-ish face capture technology for LA Noire

This isn’t explicitly movie related per se, but I know a lot of you are gamers, and this tech did remind me a lot of the kind used in AVATAR where actors emotions were capture for translation into CGI.

Rockstar has long been able to make impressive environments in games like GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption, but their character models have usually been somewhat lacking. But with this new tech? It’s the most emotion you’ve ever seen in a video game character before, and this should open a door for a new era in cinematic-type games.

The video below details the process, and you can see the program in action. I recognized Mad Men actor Aaron Staton before they even showed him in real life. Really cool stuff here, and I’m really looking forward to the game.
