Turns out Charlize Theron will be a one armed warrior for MAD MAX: FURY ROAD.
Found in a tidbit via an Austrlian ABC affiliate (also via Cinema Blend), Annabelle Williams who is a 22-year old in the world of competitive swimming dropped some knowledge of her Hollywood debut.
Last December, Williams got a call from the producers of the film looking for a blonde woman with one arm to be a stunt double. Williams left arm ends right below the elbow. The moment went a little like this according to the swimmer, “I got a phone call from one of the people at [the production company] and they said it’s got a $200 million budget. My mum was sitting there and we were just like ‘What?’ Then they said that the lead actress was Charlize Theron and I nearly died. And then I thought to myself the resemblance (between Theron and myself) is striking.” There’s only one exception, “Not at all. And she’s about a foot taller than me.”
She added that no CGI will be involved, “They are going to film me from a very long distance for the fighting so that they don’t have to CGI out her arm. I will be her, but just not [in] the face.” Williams was assessed by a stunt man for James Bond to make sure she was ready for the role. After she was deemed worthy, she was then sent to learn the martial art Muay Thai, “I’ve been training for about six months with a guy who was in the SAS and trains the military and things. It’s actually quite confronting to have someone launch at you with the intent to hurt you.”
