In a life post-SPIDER-MAN, Tobey Maguire is trying to find himself once again, and his next project is GOOD PEOPLE. Not exactly a descriptive title, but
the project was alluring enough to attract THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO director (the Swedish version of course), Niels Arden Oplev, who has just signed on. It’s his first film project since DRAGON, and one wonders what exactly drew him to it. Here’s the plot, as the film is based on a novel by Marcus Sakey:
The book’s story follows a married couple, Tom and Anna Reed, who are in debt following several rounds of IVF. It seems like all their worries are over when they find $370,000 in the room they let to a suddenly-deceased tenant, but when they try to keep the money for themselves, things get complicated, fast.
Someone is apparently looking for all that cash, and the script, by BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOUR DEAD writer Kelly Masterson, is said to have echoes of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. No word on who will play opposite Maguire yet, but Oplev’s involvement in the project will certainly attract some good talent I’m sure.
