Stellan Skarsgard is currently in negotiations to play Martin Vanger in GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. Vanger is one of the top suspects in the case of a teenager that disappeared 40-years ago. That teenage girl was part of the Vanger family.
In the story Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) is hired by Henrik Vanger, the former CEO of Vanger Enterprises for a freelance assignment connect with the disappearance. Martin is the current president of Vanger Enterprises.
Skargard had already met with director David Fincher prior to the project, “I have met (helmer David) Fincher, I want to work with him, he wants to work me. I have had a concrete offer and now we are in negotiations. The contract is for the period September to March, but I don’t know yet when I am supposed to start my part of the film.”
He also spoke about locations for the film, “Most of it is to be shot in Stockholm, but some studio work will be done in the U.S. I think there might be some location work there as well, when it becomes too dark to shoot here.”
The screenplay was penned by Steven Zaillian (SCHINDLER’S LIST, GANGS OF NEW YORK).
The role of Lisbeth Salander, the girl Vanger hires to investigate Blomkvist, has not been filled. Word on the internet is that it’s now down to Rooney Mara and Emily Browning. My vote is for Browning.
