Justin Timberlake offered the lead role in Andrew Niccol’s I’m.mortal?

JoBloJoBlo

A couple of weeks ago, it was announced that actress Amanda Seyfried would be joining director Andrew Niccol for his upcoming sci-fi “action love story” I’M.MORTAL. In that report, Niccol told Variety the following in regards to what he was looking for in his yet-to-be-cast male lead:

“It’s a strange casting process. Even for a small role like a priest or a pawnbroker, where you would normally cast a 75-year-old character actor, I have to find a 75-year-old character actor in a 25-year-old body.”

Would you say 29-year-old musician/actor Justin Timberlake fits that bill?

Here’s Deadline’s Nikki Finke (with the pertinent part in bold): “A Justin insider says the report [of Timberlake possibly replacing Simon Cowell as a permanent judge on ‘American Idol’] is ‘just silly’ because Timberlake has no time for a gig like this. That’s because his film career is really taking off after acting turns in David Fincher’s Oscar-touted The Social Network as well as Bad Teacher and Friends with Benefits. And he’s been offered the lead in the Andrew Niccols-directed I’m Mortal for New Regency and Fox.”

Wha??

Here’s the previously quoted breakdown of the story from Variety: “In ‘I’m.mortal,’ time has become the currency. Once you turn 25 and your aging gene turns off, you must buy and bank time. If you are rich enough, you can live forever. But if you run out of time, you are engineered to die automatically.

When a rebel from the ghetto is falsely accused of murdering a wealthy man for his time, he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful, rich hostage (Seyfried). Together, this duo rages against the system, living minute to minute. They discover that love is more powerful than all the time in the world.”

I like Timberlake a lot, but has he properly acquitted himself as a dramatic actor yet? I don’t think so. I mean, I actually like ALPHA DOG, but that’s more because of psycho meth addict/martial arts master Ben Foster. But hey, maybe this will be Timberlake’s big chance. What say you?
