Karate Kid sequel already underway?

JoBloJoBlo

Somewhat surprisingly, THE KARATE KID kung-fu’d its way this past weekend to some really impressive box office numbers (blowing THE A-TEAM clean out of the water by about $30 mil). Considering that the film – which is at about $62 million right now – ran clean past its reported $40 million budget, the prospect of a KARATE KID 2 was pretty much a given.

Well now Mike Fleming at Deadline is confirming that. His sources are saying that Sony execs are now meeting with writers to pitch ideas on where exactly to take the second installment.

Inevitable, I guess. On the plus side, THE KARATE KID has been generally well-received by both critics and audiences alike (though I keep hearing that it could lose about 30 minutes of footage and not suffer a thing). But where could a sequel go? Let us know what you think below.
