Hugh Jackman’s upcoming robo-boxing flick REAL STEEL is starting to gear up, quite literally with gears.
As seen in the photo below, Jackman is giving instructions to “a Samurai-design robot contender called Noisy Boy”. In the futuristic story, “motion-capture animation is used in the film when the machines are brawling (with boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard working as an adviser on those), but 19 real-life animatronic giants were created for scenes with the human actors.”
REAL STEEL is described as “a Rocky-esque tale of a fighter who has to reinvent himself when human boxing becomes obsolete, replaced by 2000 pound human-like robots.” The Dreamworks movie is directed by Shawn Levy (A NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 1 & 2), is exec-produced by Steven Spielberg and has a November 18, 2011 release date. It also stars Jackman’s WOLVERINE co-star Kevin Durand, THE HURT LOCKER’s Anthony Mackie, and perhaps most important of all, “Lost” hottie Evangeline Lilly.
