Disney buys the pitch for a live action Cinderella

JoBloJoBlo

Ever since Tim Burton’s version of ALICE IN WONDERLAND turned in a record breaking 3D weekend of $116 million, Disney has been looking to breathe new life into other fairy tales in the vault.

First up will be a live action version of CINDERELLA. The winning idea was pitched by screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, 27 DRESSES).

There are no plot details as of yet, since CINDERELLA has had many different takes. Some of the more “popular” being A CINDERELLA STORY with Hilary Duff and EVER AFTER starring Drew Barrymore. No word if it will be in 3D either.

Disney has previously dabbled in princesses come to life with ENCHANTED. The 2007 film starred Amy Adams as Giselle, a princess that was basically a combination of all the greats–Cinderella, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White.

Simon Kinberg (JUMPER) will produce the the live action CINDERELLA. Brosh McKenna and Kinberg are also working on a screenplay for Paramount and Bad Robot partners JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk.
