After shopping the project around Hollywood, director Steven Soderbergh has found a home for his upcoming action-thriller CONTAGION. Despite bidding from a number of studios, Soderbergh will stick with Warner Bros. where he’s made the OCEAN’S films, THE GOOD GERMAN and recently THE INFORMANT!
Set to star in the film is an all-star cast that includes Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard and Jude Law. Like viral action-thrillers before it, CONTAGION will follow the attempts to contain a deadly disease told though intersecting stories a la Soderbergh’s TRAFFIC. The script was written by Scott Z. Burns who collaborated with Soderbergh on THE INFORMANT! and Damon on THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM.
Warner Bros. comes to the film with relatively little risk as Participant Media (THE CRAZIES) has already agreed to pick up half of the $60 million budget. Soderbergh is currently filming another action flick, KNOCKOUT, with Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Michael Douglas and Gina Carano.
