Usually when someone in the film industry passes away, the Oscars put a video montage together to pay tribute to those people.
It’s obvious how important John Hughes was to film, and this year the academy will be doing something special for the late director. The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Tom Sherak and Oscarcast producer Bill Mechanic both worked with Hughes. As did this year’s hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. That personal connection sealed the deal when it came to planning a separate tribute.
There weren’t many details given about the tribute, except that cast members that have previously worked with Hughes would be involved.
Hughes has touched many fans through each and every one of his films. The pain, love, angst, and everything else that comes with being a teenager was perfected by the director. For me, Hughes captured the magic partnership of music and film together in a way that only few can do.
I can only imagine what the tribute will be. Although there are many people who have passed away that deserve their own tributes, it’s hard to argue against one centered on Hughes.
