Jonah Hex gets reshoots from ‘I Am Legend’ director

JoBloJoBlo

We heard last month that Josh Brolin would be reapplying his gnarly face makeup and Megan Fox would be a whore once more for some additional shooting on the horror-western JONAH HEX. Plenty of movies do reshoots, for a variety of reasons. No big deal, right?

Well, this time around the principal cast members are coming back for another 10 days of filming, as “the studio has decided to work on story and action during the shoots, working in 12 pages of additional script mixed in with some reshoots,” according to Heat Vision.

And while the official line is that the project’s original director Jimmy Hayward (HORTON HEARS A WHO) still has a chair with his name on it, I AM LEGEND director Francis Lawrence is overseeing the reshoots as a “consultant” (as in “repairman”).

Still, no cause for panic yet — it’s perfectly plausible that a vision shift can make for a stronger end result. (THE BOURNE IDENTITY is a good example: producer Frank Marshall directed about one-third of that movie himself after Doug Liman was relieved of duty. So the story goes.)

JONAH HEX is due June 18th. Presumably, the same synopsis still applies:

Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) is a scarred drifter and bounty hunter of last resort, a tough and stoic gunslinger who can track down anyone…and anything. Having survived death, Jonah’s violent history is steeped in myth and legend, and has left him with one foot in the natural world and one on the “other side.” His only human connection is with Leila (Megan Fox), whose life in a brothel has left her with scars of her own. But Jonah’s past is about to catch up with him when the U.S. military makes him an offer he can’t refuse: in exchange for his freedom from the warrants on his head, he must track down and stop the dangerous terrorist Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich). But Turnbull, who is gathering an army and preparing to unleash Hell, is also Jonah’s oldest enemy and will stop at nothing until Jonah is dead. Based on the legendary graphic novel, “Jonah Hex” is an epic adventure thriller about one man’s personal quest for redemption against the vast canvas of the battle between good and evil.
