Pine for Lantern?

JoBloJoBlo

When I first read the rumor that actor Chris Pine might be playing Captain James T. Kirk in the new STAR TREK, I thought “Really? The psychotic middle Tremor brother from SMOKIN’ ACES? Huh.”

Now, upon reading IESB‘s rumor that Pine may be on the list of potential ring-wearers for Warner Bros.’ GREEN LANTERN, I thought “Really? The guy who I was surprised to see as the lead in a huge-budget tentpole movie like STAR TREK? Huh.”

Makes a sort of sense, though — Pine obviously now has experience with big FX, and if the new TREK is a booming success, WB will have him locked up for another high-profile project. And it’s not like there aren’t a number of other major multi-franchise actors out there.

The studio already announced plans to start filming in September, so casting rumblings at this stage aren’t a shock (release is currently staked for December 2010). Two-time Bond relauncher Martin Campbell (GOLDENEYE, CASINO ROYALE) is directing the action/sci-fi flick about the DC Comics hero tasked with protecting the planet by fabricating objects with his ring.
