There are few people in the world with both the comedic and acting chops to take on the role of Richard Pryor in a biopic. Eddie Murphy certainly has the comedic chops and his recent DREAMGIRLS performance proved he’s actually got some acting skills underneath all that prosthetic makeup. While Murphy didn’t win that Best Supporting Actor Oscar for DREAMGIRLS he’ll have another shot with the upcoming Pryor biopic. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Bill Condon and Murphy are shopping RICHARD PRYOR: IS IT SOMETHING I SAID? around Hollywood and that Fox Searchlight is close to snatching up the rights to the film. Condon wrote the script and had initially set the film up at the Weinstein Co. but they put it in turnaround. Condon trimmed the budget, brought in his DREAMGIRLS star Murphy and started fresh. If you’ve ever seen EDDIE MURPHY: RAW you know Murphy already does a bitchin’ Pryor. Is this payback for NORBIT and MEET DAVE?
