Warner Bros. have acquired the rights to DEAD SPY RUNNING for McG to direct. The film will intend to reinvent the spy genre and is said to be in the mold of the BOURNE movies. Precise details are scarce as the vehicle is based on a novel by British writer Jon Stock that won’t be published until next summer by HarperCollins, however we do know that it focuses on a newly trained spy. McG is of course currently in preproduction on TERMINATOR: SALVATION.
What are the odds that this is gonna be another by the numbers spy movie? Obviously I have no idea, but I’d wager pretty high. Of course that’s in no way a slight at McG, whose name I believe is synonymous with innovative, vanguard, visionary storytelling. And also gross deception.
