I guess Peter Berg controls the spice.
The writer-director-actor himself actually let the news slip back around the holidays, but it has now been officially announced: Berg is playing in the sand of Frank Herbert’s DUNE. The live-action Paramount movie is now seeking writers and will reportedly be a “faithful adaptation” of the rather hefty tome. Berg last helmed THE KINGDOM, so he must be into harsh environments.
Since I always found the material inscrutable (further affirmed by David Lynch’s f*cked up film version), I’ll leave the summary to Variety: “Herbert’s 1965 novel is a sweeping, futuristic tale set on the remote desert planet Arrakis, which produces the interstellar empire’s sole source of the spice Melange — used for distant space travel. An empirewide power struggle ensues over the control of the spice.”
