Morrell on Rambo

JoBloJoBlo

I got a real charge out of Stallone’s supremely violent “message movie” RAMBO, and it looks like the character’s creator did, too.

Author David Morrell, the man who made Rambo (despite what Colonel Trautman might believe), wasn’t directly involved with the film but approves of the final product nonetheless. He says that Stallone’s effort effectively captures the tone of his FIRST BLOOD novel: “It’s spot-on in terms of how I imagined the character—angry, burned-out, and filled with self-disgust because Rambo hates what he is and yet knows it’s the only thing he does well.

Morrell also appreciates the cathartic WILD BUNCH-style carnage of the climax, compares Rambo to the mythological ferryman Charon, comments on the villains and addresses Sly’s age. Read all his thoughts RIGHT HERE.
