John Cho found footage thriller Searching locates new poster & trailer

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

This August, Sony Pictures will release producer Timur Bekmambetov's (WANTED) new laptop POV horror-thriller SEARCHING starring John Cho (FOX's THE EXORCIST) and co-written and directed by Aneesh Chaganty into theaters nationwide. We've already shared a trailer and poster for the film with you guys, but if that somehow wasn't enough, today we have – you guessed it – yet another poster and trailer for your viewing pleasure.

Along with Bekmambetov the film is produced by Sev Ohanian, Adam Sidman, and Natalie Qasabian, and co-stars Debra Messing (THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES), Joseph Lee, and Michelle LA. Written by Chaganty & Sev Ohanian, the movie begins:

After David Kim (John Cho)'s 16-year-old daughter goes missing, a local investigation is opened and a detective is assigned to the case. But 37 hours later and without a single lead, David decides to search the one place no one has looked yet, where all secrets are kept today: his daughter's laptop. In a hyper-modern thriller told via the technology devices we use every day to communicate, David must trace his daughter's digital footprints before she disappears forever.

I'm not sure the world needs another laptop POV horror flick. After all the set-up barely worked for UNFRIENDED and OPEN WINDOWS so I really don't think this is a subgenre of horror that needs to be further exploited. That said, the film is getting a wide release from an extremely respectable studio (SONY) and so it must be better than the average bear, right? I doubt it, but still. Again, it hits theaters nationwide August 3rd so start searching for tickets online soon. Waka-waka.
