Last month, we let you know THE RING was the latest title in line for a franchise reboot, with acclaimed Spanish helmer F. Javier Gutierrez in line to direct a third chapter in the American series. Now the project has taken another step toward becoming a reality with the announcement Akiva Goldsman will be re-writing the screenplay.

Goldsman is a writer with a very diverse resume. He’s responsible for bringing us BATMAN FOREVER and BATMAN & ROBIN, which is enough to make you stop reading right now. But, he also penned A BEAUTIFUL MIND, which won him an Oscar, and is Ron Howard’s main collaborator on shepherding THE DARK TOWER to the big (and small) screen. He also co-wrote I, ROBOT, I AM LEGEND, THE DA VINCI CODE and many others.

All we know about THE RING 3D is that it focuses on evil entity Samara, who “returns with a familiar video tape to strike terror again.” But I guess that goes without saying.
