It’s been almost one year since Adam Wingard’s YOU’RE NEXT was acquired by Lionsgate, and we’ve been waiting anxiously for release date news ever since. The film was, by almost all accounts, a smash success at last year’s Fantastic Fest, nearly sweeping the table with Best Picture, Director, Actress (Sharni Vinson) and Screenplay awards. So where the eff is it?

Collider has just revealed that the film, which stars Sharni Vinson, Joe Swanberg, A.J. Bowen, Nicholas Tucci and Barbara Crampton, will open on AUGUST 23, 2013. That’s almost two whole years after its premiere! But, as the saying goes, better late than never. I suppose that should give Lionsgate plenty of time to figure out how to market it…

In YOU’RE NEXT, the Davison family comes under a sadistic attack during a family reunion getaway. When Crispian Davison (Bowen) brings his new girlfriend (Vinson) along to celebrate the wedding anniversary of his parents (Moran and Crampton), the family’s evening together is shattered when a gang of mysterious killers begin to hunt the family down with brutal precision. Unfortunately for the killers however, one of the victims harbors a secret talent for fighting back.
