Kristen Stewart has been having a rough time of it lately. On top of the constant tabloid gossip raking her through the coals, we got reports yesterday that she was being of kicked out of the SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN follow-up.

In a recent statement, Universal is claiming otherwise: “We are extremely proud of Snow White And The Huntsman and we’re currently exploring all options to continue the franchise. Any reports that Kristen Stewart has been dropped are false.”

Word is the studio is just trying to figure out what do with the potential franchise. Screenwriting heavyweight David Koepp was hired back in April to pen a straight sequel to HUNTSMAN, but has since walked away from the project. Meanwhile, with Chris Hemsworth’s breakout success in mind, the sequel could potentially focus on his character exclusively.

To quote Sting (the wrestler, not the singer), the only thing for sure about SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN’S sequel is that nothing’s for sure. The first film was a thoroughly okay summer blockbuster elevated by Hemsworth taking the movie and owning it. Forget the goofy ass Bob Hoskins/Nick Frost CGI dwarves and the stupid magical meadow stuff– give me Hemsworth as an axe swinging, functioning alcoholic and I’m a happy camper. Whether or not Universal agrees with this sentiment remains to be seen, but either way their confidence in the franchise’s potential seems right on the money.
