THE EXPENDABLES 2 has not hit theaters yet, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to start talking about who should be in Part 3! The obvious name that comes to mind is Steven Seagal, since he’s essentially the only old-school action star (from the 80s/90s, anyway) who hasn’t participated yet, so it’s about time to start thinking outside the box. Better yet, why not let producer Avi Lerner think outside the box for us; he’s got some crazy ideas!
“We’ve approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we’ve got a character in mind for him,” Lerner told Total Film. “We’re talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I’ll give you one more name, we’ve got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters].”
“And we’re going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won’t be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars [will return]”
And you thought the group was eccentric now! Snipes and Cage aren’t stretches – I’m willing to bet both of those dudes would do a Wheaties commercial at this point if the price was right – but can you picture Ford and Eastwood joining the action? It’s almost… too much. And too grumpy; this would be the grumpiest action film in history.
And good luck getting Mickey Rourke not to “be too crazy,” Avi.
