Love it, hate it, or merely be confused/frustrated by it, PROMETHEUS has been one of the summer’s most talked about films. The Ridley Scott production has grossed a little over $300 million worldwide so far, which is certainly below what 20th Century Fox would have hoped for (especially when you consider its $130+ million budget), but it doesn’t look like that will stop them from making a sequel.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed, via Fox, that PROMETHEUS 2 is in active development, with a 2014 or 2015 release planned. While it’s unsure if Damon Lindelof will script it (the studio is talking to new writers about the project now), it appears as though Ridley Scott will be on board.
“Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can’t rush it,” Fox president of production Emma Watts told THR, making the understatement of the year.
Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are signed to do Part 2, which should be a very intriguing film indeed. Will it follow-up on all those loose threads left dangling in the first film, or will it be content to journey down a more ALIEN-friendly path?
