British up-and-comer Jack O’Connell (pictured right) has joined the film as “Calista.” Not much has been revealed about the part in the source article (The Daily Mail), but O’Connell is evidently flying out to Bulgaria as we speak to commence work on the Noam Murro-directed fantasy.
You may have seen O’Connell in the British flicks EDEN LAKE and HARRY BROWN, or the racy hit UK show “Skins.” His Imdb page indicates that he has four films coming out this year, so I suppose we’ll be seeing a bunch of Mr. O’Connell in the near future.
Artemisia is based on Frank Miller’s upcoming graphic novel that takes Xerxes, the Persian leader who is an antagonist in 300, and turns him into more of a pivotal figure. He’s a man in search of godhood after the death of his father, battling an Athenian warlord named Themistocles. The story takes place over the course of several years, but the focal point is the battle of Artemisium, which occurred in 480 BC.
O’Connell joins Eva Green, Jamie Blackley, Rodrigo Santoro and Sullivan Stapleton in the 300 prequel, which comes out in August of next year.
