As Atom Egoyan nears closer to filming THE DEVIL’S KNOT, the casting keeps on rolling…

Last week youngster Kris Higgins had won the role of Jessie Misskelly, one of the three defendants in the West Memphis 3 case, and now Alessandro Nivola will play an equally vital role.

Per Deadline, Nivola will play Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of one of the young victims. It’s a pivotal role in the film; Hobbs is a controversial figure who has consistently denied any role in the murders but has come under suspicion in the 20 years since the crime was committed. He has never been charged and evidence against him is inconclusive. His relationship with his wife Pam Hobbs (Witherspoon) forms the backbone of the story.

Despicable, that Terry Hobbs. Even more alarming is the fact police never questioned him once in the aftermath of the arrest. All signs now point to Hobbs being the culprit, so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of humanity Nivola brings to the role.

THE DEVIL’S KNOT – also Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon (below) and Mireille Enos – films this summer in Georgia.
