Once and a while I love myself a good run-of-the-mill slasher flick. Sure, most of them suck pretty hard… but every now and again you get a gem thrown in there. I’m hoping Joseph Kahn’s DETENTION is one of those gems!
We’ll find out soon enough because Sony Home Pictures Entertainment have just announced that they’ll be dropping DETENTION on DVD and Blu-Ray July 31st! The DVD will only have a single featurette, “Cheat Mode,” while the Blu-Ray will consist of three featurettes and some screen tests.
In DETENTION, a hipster, teen horror-comedy where the local students of Grizzly Lake must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is Cinderhella, a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life and is preying on the school’s student body. As the clock ticks and the bodies pile up, the likely suspects are embroiled in a race against time to stop Cinderhella and ultimately save the world… if only they can get out of detention.
The Blu-Ray and DVD are packed with bonus materials, including a feature-length featurette. “Cheat Mode: The Unbelievably Mind Melting Making of Detention” provides detailed insights from cast and crew on the making of the film as well as trivia throughout. In addition, the Blu-Ray includes three exclusive bonus features: in “Fight Rehearsal” the crew rehearses one of the key fight scenes from the film; the “Riffing with Dane” featurette provides a montage of Dane Cook goofs; and last are the screen testes for Shanley Caswell, Aaron David Johnson and Yves Bright.
