Taylor Lautner…get out the wig and make-up, you may have work to do…

Word from THR is Lestat – the original emo-vampire created by Anne Rice – may be headed back to the big-screen with the adaptation of TALE OF THE BODY THIEF. Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment has optioned the Rice novel, which marks the 4th tome in Rice’s “Vampire Chronicles” series. Producing wunderkinds Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are also producing with Imagine.

With Lee Patterson (SNATCHED) on script duties:

The hook of the Body Thief is that the story concerns body-switching. Lestat, depressed and lonely after centuries as a vampire, decides to transfer souls for a day with a psychic, who after the transfer reveals that he has no intention of switching back. Lestat, now in a human body and with the help of some friends, must track down the man and get his body back.

A body-switching emo-vampire movie? Whoa. My guess is Cruise and Pitt won’t be reprising their roles from the 1994 original. We all know this Lautner guy is the new Cruise…which probably makes one of those HINGER GAMES clowns the “new” Pitt. Either way, unless this flick locks a top rate director, an R-rating and some solid supporting talent…thanks but no thanks to the BODY THIEF.

Am I judging too harshly?
