Ben Affleck taps Invasion scribe David Kajganich to adapt The Stand

Looks like Ben Affleck is taking THE STAND after all, as he’s just tapped a writer with the unenviable task of adapting the one and only Mr. Stephen King…

Word from Vulture is Affleck has hired David Kajganich (THE INVASION, BLOOD CREEK) to adapt THE STAND for Warner Bros., this despite a lack of any directorial confirmation. Apparently the studio loved Kajganich’s other King adaptation, IT, then introduced the cat to Affleck shortly thereafter. My guess is they’re all in cahoots then, not working separately, and thus it will be Affleck in the director’s chair once shooting commences. A very lofty endeavor, THE STAND is, you think Affleck can make that shite work? And why haven’t we heard more of this IT remake? Damn it!

As for THE STAND:

One man escapes from a biological weapon facility after an accident, carrying with him the deadly virus known as Captain Tripps, a rapidly mutating flu that – in the ensuing weeks – wipes out most of the world’s population. In the aftermath, survivors choose between following an elderly black woman to Boulder or the dark man, Randall Flagg, who has set up his command post in Las Vegas. The two factions prepare for a confrontation between the forces of good and evil.
