How are you guys feeling about Tim Burton’s upcoming animated stop-motion flick FRANKENWEENIE? My gut reaction is the thing looks to be a little on the childish side but if today’s article over at the LA Times is any indication it’ll be far from that.
Well maybe not far from it but it should definitely be acceptable to us genre fans. I’m saying this because apparently Burton is looking at FRANKENWEENIE as an ode to the classic monster movies of the 1930s. I can dig that. Also in the article is a brand new still from the flick, which can be found by scrolling on down below. Much like the first shot from the film this new still also features our star ‘Victor’ and his beloved best friend ‘Sparky.’
From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.
A stop-motion animated film, “Frankenweenie” will be filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience.
Starring the voice talents of Martin Landau, Winona Ryder (below), Martin Short, Charlie Tehan, Atticus Shaffer and Catherine O’Hara, FRANKENWEENIE is due to hit theaters on October 5th so expect a lot more updates as we near that date.
